1906. "In his review of Gottlob's showing at the 1899 Salon des Cents, Henry Dragon summed up his feelings towards the artist's work in La Plume in the following manner, 'Gottlob didn't go to the expense of colours. Monochromatic painting, subdued nuances, simple, almost rudimentary drawing, quasireligious drawing. He serves himself by the most ordinary means and processes, and he has arrived to give us sensations of a profound intensity."
