Sandberg German silent romantic melodrama (based on the play by Sophus Michaelis). "Fenneker's works always have style, an effervescent, pulsating cinematic style. This is their secret attraction..." - Walter F. Schubert Artist Josef Fenneker (1895 - 1956) Painter, graphic designer, and stage designer. Following studies at the Arts and Crafts schools in Munster, Dusseldorf and Munich, Fenneker was one of Emil Orlik's master-class students at the school of the Berlin Arts and Crafts Museum. In the postwar years he was one of the most sought after designers of film posters. More than 300 works have been preserved from his vast oeuvre (by the Deutsche Kinemathek in Berlin). He worked in a mixed style, strongly tinged with expressionist characteristics. He was first employed by Berlin theaters (Marmourhaus, Union-Theater, Mozartsaal), then by various film distributors. Fenneker also created stage designs for the decoration of the Berlin Luna-Park and the Lichtspiele am Moritzplatz theater and illustrations for such magazines, as Simplicissimus and Jugend. - from UFA Film Posters 1918-1943 Exhibitions: Josef Fenneker: Cinema Posters From Berlin, Museum of Modern Art, New York, February 14-March 31, 1985. Gosta Ekman, Sr. (December 28, 1890 - January 12, 1938), born Frans Gosta Viktor Ekman, was a Swedish actor. Generally spoken of as Swedish theatre's most legendary stage actor, Gosta Ekman enjoyed a prolific stage career during his short life, becoming the first real star of Swedish theatre. His boyish good looks attracted both sexes, helping to create a massive cult following and elevating him to the status of a living legend. Combined with a beautiful voice and a powerful stage presence, Ekman was able to captivate his audiences.
