Notes: Jan Sawka, part of the Third Generation of the Polish School of Posters, died last Thursday at his studio and home in High Falls, N.Y. Throughout his life, Sawka had over 50 solo shows at museums and galleries worldwide, with his paintings, posters, and prints represented in more than 60 museums. After becoming a star of the Polish School of Posters in his early 20s, Sawka was exiled from Poland in 1976 for his involvement in the Polish and American counterculture movements. In later years, he acknowledged that many of his posters, especially his CYRK posters, were designed to criticize the government and life under Communism. For him, both design and color were purposefully selected for hidden anti-government messages. Poster is a window-card printed
