In 1891, Samuel Keller went to Germany , where he held the post of secretary-general of the newly founded German Association of Morality. In 1892 he moved to a pastorate in Dusseldorf . In 1898 he gave up this position and moved to Freiburg im Breisgau , from where he worked in the following decades as a successful preacher and publicist for the Protestant evangelism . In 1902 Keller was co-founder of the " Eisenacher Bund ", a supporters' organization of the pietistic " community movement " that emerged in the 19th century; from 1902 to 1916 he published the monthly magazine "Auf Dein Wort". During the First World War Keller supported the German war effort through a variety of patriotic - theological lectures and publications.
