Halle In 1945 General Hasbrouck was awarded the Silver Star for gallantry in action when he personally directed his division's operations in Belgium to halt the German drive on Liege in the Battle of the Bulge. The division held a salient around St. Vith against four German divisions for six days, allowing the First Army to establish new defensive positions.
