1890s Tobacco Label from Petersburg, VA. "Britannia is the national personification of Britain often shown as a helmeted female warrior holding a trident and shield. An image first used in classical antiquity, the Latin Britannia was the name variously applied to the British Isles, Great Britain, and the Roman province of Britain during the Roman Empire." (Wikipedia). Here she is sans battle gear burning incense with a snake around her arm. NOTE: Tiny paper loss out of top border and tear in upper right corner.
