The photographer Bruehl, Anton (1900 - 1982) "Born of German émigré parents in Australia, Anton Bruehl settled in the United States in 1919 and became an electrical engineer. When he discovered a show of student works from the Clarence Hudson White School of Photography at the Art Center, in New York, in 1923, he decided to become a photographer and managed to open a studio in 1925. Anton Bruehl promptly became one of the 1920s and 1930s leading photographers with his elaborate portraits of celebrities such as Marlene Dietrich, that evoked the work of Edward Steichen and his color images he was one of the first to produce.
