Angela Lansbury starred as the titular character in the original 1966 Broadway production of Mame, a role that solidified her status as a musical theater legend. Her performance in this Jerry Herman musical, which opened at the Winter Garden Theatre, earned her the 1966 Tony Award for Best Actress in a Musical. Lansbury returned to the role for a 1983 revival, bringing the character back to the Broadway stage at the Gershwin Theatre.
