Original artwork maquette. A political cartoon showing abdicated German emperor Kaiser Wilhelm II and his new wife. The couple were wed in 1922, (Wilhelm was 63 at the time) despite the objections of Wilhelm's monarchist supporters and his children. The Dutch text translates as: "be proud, Hermin Von Neuss, of your new husband... I... the mightiest ruler of the world... Belgium, Holland, Italy, Brussels, Spain, America, everything belongs to me...But, my dear, love has driven me crazy..." NOTE: on archival linen backing.
