1938 The Marchbanks Press. In 1918 Interborough Rapid Transit Company began issuing twin poster series — The Subway Sun and The Elevated Express — for display in its cars. Fred G. Cooper, an illustrator and type designer, was a founding member of the AIGA, and was known for his “cartoonettes” for Life Magazine and his visual identity work for New York Edison (ConEd).
